Dedication to Cumberland Industries Ltd’s “social cause” pervades the entire organisation.
The philosophy of Cumberland Industries Ltd has not changed since it began. It is about people with a disability having a sense of personal worth, the satisfaction that comes with learning new skills and getting the job done, and receiving recognition for their contribution. There is also the social side, making friends, meeting people and joining in the company’s social activities. Loyalty, trust, respect, teamwork and caring were hallmarks of those early days and are very much a feature of Cumberland Industries Ltd in 2008.
The legacy of justice and equal opportunity for people with a disability underpins Cumberland Industries Ltd, and all that the company does.
This is evident today. It is evident every day.
It was evident in May 2008, when Cumberland Industries Ltd - recognising the enormous needs of people with a disability in Penrith - established Cumberland Fine Foods Penrith.
In so many ways, Penrith is an “echo” of the original “founding fathers” who similarly recognised the needs of people with a disability and addressed that need by establishing workshops throughout Western Sydney. If you’re quiet - you can hear the echo and the spirit living on.
Today we are the custodians.
We – staff, employees, Board and Life Members, the community – are the guardians of all that Cumberland Industries Ltd has been, and will be in the future.
It is a responsibility that we all share.
